Apple Pie

I have been trying to make this pie for a long long long time now, but was always scared to try it out. Especially the lattice upper crust always intimidated me for trying out this recipe. So after searching the internet for easy upper crusts I finally made it easier for myself and prepared the lattice in a rather simple and quick manner. I recommend everyone to try the authentic style if possible else make an easier version 🙂

I prepared a basic apple pie with few ingredients since this is my first try. Would prepare better versions going forth 🙂

Serves: 2

Preparation time: 15 mins

Baking time: 30 mins

Ingredients

Pie crust – to make 2 layers (top and bottom of pie) – check my recipe here.

Apples – 2 (peeled, deseeded and cut into ½ inch quarters)

Cinnamon sugar – 1 tbsp

Lemon juice – 1 tbsp

Salt – a pinch

Sugar – 3 tbsp

All-purpose flour/maida – 2 tbsp

Egg wash/butter/milk/oil – 1 tbsp

Procedure:

  1. Mix the apples, lemon juice, sugar, salt, cinnamon sugar and maida. Give a good stir. Keep aside.
  2. Make 2 balls of the pie crust – one slightly bigger than the other.
  3. Roll out the smaller one first into a round shape and carefully place it in the pie pan/baking tray/bowl. Tuck in the corners carefully and leave some pie hanging from the edges of the pie tray. If a lot is hanging off, cut the extra crust.
  4. Pour the seasoned apples into the tray.
  5. Roll out the bigger pie crust and cut it into ½ inch thick strips.
  6. Place the strips alternately over the apples once horizontally and then vertically. Prepare a lattice shape by this arrangement.
  7. Brush the pie with butter/egg wash. Optionally, sprinkle some cinnamon sugar.
  8. Place this in an oven pre-heated to 220°C for about 20-25 mins or until a dark brown crust appears.
  9. Remove and let it cool for about 15 mins. Serve this insanely delicious apple pie with my version of sauce (recipe soon).

Note: The authentic version of apple pie has a lattice shape made in a pattern, but I couldn’t do it. So I made this easier lattice instead.
