Serves: 2 | Cooking time: 15 mins |
Ingredients:
Wheat flour – 1 cup
Leftover bread pieces – 4 (remove sides)
Cashew nuts – 3 (finely chopped)
Almonds/Badam – 2 (finely chopped)
Powdered sugar – 3/4 cup
Oil – to shallow fry
Water –3/4 cup
Salt – ½ tsp
Procedure:
- Add sufficient water and salt to the wheat flour and knead to soft dough. You may use leftover roti flour as well.
- In a small sauce pan, add ½ cup powdered sugar and ¾ cups water and prepare thin syrup.
- Place the bread in a dish and crumble it into small pieces. Add the cashew, badam and remaining powdered sugar (1/4 cup) and shape into small balls. If moisture is needed add some prepared sugar syrup.
- Shape the wheat flour dough into small balls and in each dough ball place one bread ball.
- Roll each dough ball into roti/chapatti and cut it into small squares. Do the same with all the dough balls.
- Heat oil for shallow fry and fry the squares till golden brown.
- Immediately place them in the sugar syrup and remove once each square is coated with the sweet liquid.
- Garnish either with powdered sugar or any nuts of your choice.
Variations:
Instead of frying the squares in oil, you may also bake them. I baked them in an oven pre-heated to 200° C and it took about 10 mins to get golden brown. But personally the ones fried in oil were tastier.
