Looking for an instant and quick dessert?? Have some leftover bread at home?? Well, then try this quick and easy chocolate bread dumplings which doesn’t take much effort to prepare. This is a perfect recipe with leftover bread slices which can be finished in about 15 minutes.
Makes: 4 dumplings |
Preparation time: 15 mins |
Bread dumplings:
Leftover bread slices – 4
Bread crumbs/soya granules – for coating the dumplings
Walnuts – 1 tbsp (finely chopped, optional)
Dry strawberry – 1 tbsp (finely chopped, optional)
Oil/butter – 1 tsp
Sugar syrup:
Water – ¼ cups
Sugar – 3-4 tbsp (adjust depending on the amount of sweetness you prefer)
Chocolate sauce:
Water – ¼ cups
Sugar – 4 tbsp
Unsweetened Cocoa powder – 1 tbsp
Corn flour – 1 tsp
Vanilla essence – 2-3 drops
Procedure:
- To prepare the sugar syrup, add ingredients under ‘sugar syrup’ to a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Stir till sugar dissolves and remove from heat. Let cool for about 5 minutes.
- In the meanwhile, to prepare the chocolate syrup, add ingredients under ‘chocolate sauce’ except corn flour and bring to a boil. Add the corn flour and combine till the sauce thickens and corn flour dissolves well. Make sure there are no lumps of corn flour in the sauce. Let cool for a while.
- If using soya granules for coating the dumplings, blend the granules till you get a fine powder and place aside.
- Tear the bread slices roughly with your hands and place them in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the walnuts, strawberry and sugar syrup and mix well with your hands. You should be able to make stiff and soft dough with it. If the mixture is crumbly, add a little more of water.
- Make bite-size balls from the dough and coat them well with bread crumbs on all sides.
- Heat oil in a pan and slightly fry the bread balls till they turn golden brown on all sides.
- Remove onto serving plate and drizzle the chocolate sauce over them. You may also add some powdered sugar for a good contrast.
- Warm and easy chocolate bread dumplings are ready!!!
Very innovative 🙂
Actually it is true that ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’. I was craving for some quick dessert and this is what I could prepare 🙂 Thanks for the comment!!

Mouth watering…. Can this be served cold.. I want to serve it in a party.. So can I prepare it before….
It tastes best if served warm, once cool the bread dumpling would become dry. Best thing would be to microwave the dumplings alone before serving and then top with chocolate sauce.
