Green bean Fries

I always crave for some crispy sides for my burgers or wraps. Potato fries is the first thought that comes to my mind, but its calorie content disappoints me. Next comes onion rings, but they too need to be deep fried in oil. So I thought why not make fries with veggies and I found on the internet that green beans is a good option. So, I made them by baking instead of deep-fry and they were really goood. I will not miss my potato fries anymore 🙂

Serves: 2

Preparation time: 15 mins

Baking time: 10 mins

Ingredients:

Green beans – 250gms (ends cut off and blanched in hot water for 10 mins)

Bread crumbs – 1 cup

All-purpose flour/maida – 3 tbsp

Garlic powder – 1 tsp

Salt – to taste

Oil – 3 tbsp

Pepper – 1 tsp

Cumin powder – ½ tsp

Italian herbs/Dried basil – ½ tsp

Procedure:

  1. Combine the bread crumbs, garlic powder, salt, pepper, cumin powder and herbs. Keep aside.
  2. Add about 5 tbsp of water to the maida to make a thick paste. Add a pinch of salt to it if desired. Keep aside.
  3. Taking a couple at a time, place the beans in the maida mixture first to coat them well.
  4. Then place them in the seasoned bread crumbs and make sure that the beans are well coated with the crumbs. Prepare all the beans in this manner.
  5. Take a baking sheet/tray/plate covered with aluminum foil. Slightly grease the tray.
  6. Place the beans evenly on the foil and spray some oil over them.
  7. Place this in a pre-heated oven at 220°C for about 8-10 mins or until the beans turn golden brown.
  8. You may grill them for another 2-3 minutes if desired, but baking itself would make them crispy too.
  9. Serve as a side with burgers or wraps.
